In short, while the owner was coming down to meet me from home for about 25 minutes, I looked at the whole car from the outside, I won’t hide it - from five meters it was the perfect little car, it shone in the sun .... but, bitch, it turned out after a complete painting, although in fact , it wasn’t broken, the pillows are all in place, it’s especially obvious that there’s nothing to complain about, even the glasses were all native, the painting is also at the level of office. dealer, but not understanding such a joke from the car, I refused, so as not to get later on the further sale to the loss of all the same wooden ones.
I come home, open it From hand to hand, look at ads and see a car there, like a picture that I didn’t even think about, but, yes, in the secrets of the subconscious, of course, I dreamed - Toyota Rav4, 2002, automatic transmission, leather, sunroof... power accessories... Webasto... a car from Germany, in Russia 3 years, total mileage 120 thousand, of which only 30 thousand in Ufa, and even in the hands of a lovely golden-haired lady))))) Oh... ..Beautiful girl...))))

Beginning mechanics - take note!
More than a thousand five kilometers. did nothing, went and rejoiced ..... but not for long!!!!
I can’t say if it’s a coincidence or not, but with a sharp cold snap, I took the car at the beginning of winter, after starting the engine and slowly moving towards work, I felt a slight push, then the “Check” light came on and the car hardly drove on, it started off somehow , reverse speed and forward began to turn on with a blow, from which my point began to play a little ... !!! But I got to work...
We read the error - I don’t remember what happened there, the essence is an open circuit in the control circuit of two automatic transmission shift solenoids.
Everyone thought together, the error of the arrow and sent me for a test drive - the result is negative - the "Check" is on, the car moves with difficulty .... etc. and again playing a point in anticipation of a major run-in for the loot))))
On the recommendation of a friend of Vasily, the car was left alone on the territory for further inspection by the GURU of diagnostics. On that ill-fated day, it was not his shift, but the dealer's preliminary recommendations read - the removal and disassembly of the automatic transmission, which was not at all pleasing on New Year's Eve !!!
After an in-depth study of the situation and lengthy meetings with comrade Vasily, it was decided to leave the automatic transmission alone, and dismantle the automatic transmission unit (it is also responsible for the internal combustion engine) and solder the circuit.
No sooner said than done!!!
The result is positive, the operation of the automatic transmission returned to normal, but, bitch, not for a long time, for about a month !!!
After that, it was decided not to brainwash the brain, to put the car on a joke, so as not to kill the automatic transmission, but to order and install an upgraded ECU unit. A typical sore Ravchikov, if I'm not mistaken, until 2005, was officially recognized by Toyota through the publication of a service bulletin.
The block was ordered in "existential" for 22,000 rubles, from the officials - about 65,000 rubles.
While the block was traveling from the emirates, for experimental purposes, I dismantled the regular block and sent it to the oven, yes, yes, to the oven of a home electric stove for heating at a temperature of about 320 degrees, for warming up and possible elimination of "bad contact" in the wilds of electronics! !! I don’t remember how much I warmed him, but I remember that I ran to get it when I smelled the smell of burning and with the thought that everything, f****ets, science was over)))))
But the block, after cooling and osomtra, was recognized as a survivor in the battles for science and went to the car for the purpose of testing !!!!
The car started up, the "Check" went out, although the trip revealed the following: the symptoms of the malfunction became more adequate and less noticeable - while driving, the gearshifts were felt prolonged, but otherwise there were no questions, so I drove 500 kilometers, but feeling in the back seat that it’s the same as - something is wrong, I stopped further trips before the arrival of a new block !!!
Upon arrival, the upgraded ECU was installed, the keys were re-flashed - the flight was normal, many thanks to comrade Vasily for his help in organizing the process !!!
More than any problems, pah-pah-pah does not arise!!!!
I note the peculiarity of the leather interior - it almost does not get dirty, it washes quickly .... very convenient, especially if there are four-legged friends in the house))))
But there is a minus - in winter the priest has a hard time, you sit down as if on a stake ... you freeze right up to the very brain !!!
Seat heating is a good thing, but it helps 10 minutes after the start of the movement!!!
Webasto heats the engine, if you warm up the interior too - the regular battery dies right before your eyes, after which one frosty morning I had to go on route 11)))))
On the same day, a decision was made - to replace the battery with a more capacious and large-sized one + install a signalization with a start !!!

To be honest, I set the alarm only for the remote start function of the internal combustion engine, so far I have not set the siren and have not connected any interlocks, so as not to cuckoo at the most inopportune moment somewhere ....
Winter tires are installed a little narrower than standard summer tires on wheels from Ravchik in the 10th body, which is noticed - the car steers a little easier, is less sensitive when driving in a shallow rut, the control is more obedient.
What I want to note is that I practically did not use the air conditioner in the summer, I turned it on several times, for a short time, but because around the city for short trips there is no sense from it, I use an electric sunroof - the result is positive !!! The myth about the drop dead usefulness of such a stray as the presence of an air conditioner is completely destroyed for me))))
The presence of a permanent all-wheel drive pleases, the stray is necessary, but do not abuse it !!!
I will say right away - Rav, this is not a JEEP !!!! I do not recommend climbing into all sorts of "kaki" and other harsh places without the need !!!! Davicha planted his device near the garage, which caused the smiles of uncles drinking beer nearby, and went for a shovel ... after a short dance of the shaman with a shovel around the helpless equipment, he left safely. But at the same time, the disadvantages of the automatic transmission were felt on the face - it is almost impossible to go into a "buildup", I can definitely say that if the same car was on the mechanics, I would have left without problems !!!
The automatic transmission on this car has 4 speeds, it works very adequately, I did not notice any flaws in terms of comfort of movement around the city and along the highway. The shifts are smooth, the gear ratios are chosen wisely, the power of 150 mares is enough for both a leisurely ride, confident starting without failures, and for the desire to "pin" !!! Noticed - when driving at a speed of 60 to 80 mph on the tachometer a little less or a little more than 2000 rpm, which makes me happy, because. at these speeds in the cabin is quite quiet and comfortable. With unhurried acceleration, the automatic transmission also shifts gears at a mark close to 2000 rpm. When you press the gas pedal at about half the speed, the automatic transmission starts to behave differently and shifts gears at speeds of 3500 and higher, when you press the gas pedal all the way to the stop, the automatic transmission immediately drops one speed down and then the speed will switch until the maximum speed is reached, which makes me happy .... it really spins the engine to victory and makes Ravchik growl like an adult)))) After studying the manuals, I found out that the muffler has a tricky design and works almost like a forward flow during active movement, a certain valve opens there, which, accordingly, increases the noise level , in my opinion - an interesting feature !!!!
The automatic transmission does not require special maintenance, depending on the operating conditions, a partial oil change may be required, the procedure is simple and not expensive. The condition of the oil is easy to check with a dipstick. Automatic transmission oil should be used only original Toyota T-IV. To update, you will need about 4 liters of oil and, preferably, purchase the original drain plug gasket :)
The 1AZ engine with a capacity of 150 horses is good, reliable and unpretentious. It has variable valve opening phases at the inlet, which affects good traction from the bottom to the top! It does not require any adjustments during operation. According to the reputable motorist Toyota Center Ufa Sergey Mikhalkovich, it is possible to adjust the valve clearance for prevention purposes, but at the moment this is not critical, judging by the quiet operation of the engine, therefore, for the sake of curiosity, I did not climb there, so as not to violate the factory sealant and not cause unnecessary questions when selling - what, why and why))). The timing is driven by a chain - this is a plus, no minuses have been noticed)))
Ease of maintenance and lack of headache - whether it breaks or not, bends the valves or does not bend - the headache of many owners of Kia, Hyundai, etc. cars !!! Attachments (generator, conder, water pump, power steering pump) are driven by one belt, surprisingly - 135,000 km of run - still original, excellent condition, does not require replacement, he himself is surprised by his vitality !!!! The belt tensioner is automatic, I noticed that when starting at minus 20 and below, it began to “rattle” a little when position D or R was turned on, it stops making noise when it warms up, or maybe it always made that noise, usually I always start the car before leaving the house from the signaling, and recently I decided to experiment manually, to observe !!! Well, I felt this sound! Doesn't stress!!! But it is alarming - the issue price is about 3,500 rubles for a new tensioner.

The engine is not capricious to oil - synthetics 5w40, 0w30 - I use either Shell or Castrol, I didn’t notice a difference, it’s desirable to change it every 10,000 km, I change it myself more often when the seasons change, usually at the beginning of summer and at the beginning of winter. I put only the original oil filter, the issue price is 350 rubles. For some reason, after numerous debates with experts, I came to the conclusion that it’s better not to save on the oil filter))) I changed the air filter twice, at the beginning of summer and in the middle of winter - for some reason it gets quite dirty, I attribute this to a dusty and rainless summer , as well as with a feature of the air intake system - a short and large diameter intake tube without an intermediate resonator. I noticed that on the "Koreans" the ICE air filter lives longer - mainly from 10 to 20 thousand km.
The control electronics is very reliable, from experience I can say that in Toyota it is one of the most unpretentious and does not cause problems. On a run of 130,000 km, the heating coil on one of the lower oxygen sensors burned out, which immediately highlighted the "Check" on the instrument panel. This incident did not affect the operation of the internal combustion engine! For experimental purposes, I carried out a small research project, the result of which was an imitation of the operation of the oxygen sensor heating system with a certain resistance - the result - the check was canceled, the resistance was adjusted to the right place, the flight was normal - the issue price was 30 rubles. for ceramic resistance in the Electronics store, the original sensor itself costs from 3,500 rubles, which, in principle, is nothing !!!
I really like the suspension of the car, it is neither hard nor soft, for some reason it seems to me that this is the most adequate setting for driving around the city, on the highway, on steep turns, on rough terrain (the suspension travels are quite large). Very tenacious chassis!!!! Virtually unkillable! I didn't find any cons! Very reliable and inexpensive in spare parts. To be honest, for the entire service life (135,000 km), only the front stabilizer bushings were replaced, the issue price is 800 rubles. for the original, and one front stabilizer bar, the issue price is 1800 rubles. for the original. The rear suspension is on wishbones, but to tell the truth, there is already a slight backlash in them, but as the operation has shown - there are no extraneous noises - I did not change it. I should immediately note that when replacing the rear transverse levers, you need to take a set of fasteners - they turn sour tightly :) !!! In the front suspension, everything is unscrewed without problems !!! In short - walking class! It practically does not require investments, the prices are acceptable for original spare parts, and not non-original!!!
Brakes - class!!! Relevant and informative! No questions for them at all! The rear pads are still original! Depreciation is about 50%!!! But I had to replace the front pads along with the discs - thanks to the previous owner !!! Having missed the critical wear of the front pads - they pulled up the brake discs, they didn’t change them - they made a groove, but because of my curiosity, I had to change them, because. as a result of the thickness measurement, the absence of a large amount of the desired metal was revealed, almost 4 mm less than the minimum possible thickness !!!! BREMBO put the discs, TRW pads (the same label was seen on the original ones) - the issue price is about 3,500 rubles. for all)))
The anthers on the front brake cylinders were also replaced, they broke as a result of a very large piston stroke due to unacceptable wear of the front pads and discs - the issue price is about 1,500 rubles for a front caliper repair kit and 1 liter of brake fluid !!! At the same time, all brake calipers were prevented, cleaned and lubricated with special, I pay special attention to "SPECIAL" (high-temperature) lubrication of all guide pins. So I recommend to monitor the condition of the brake pads!!! But Toyota officially recommends cleaning the brake mechanisms and lubricating the guide pins of the calipers every 10,000 km, i.e. at each MOT))) We take note !!!
The steering is good but not great!!!! Long accustomed after electric power Corolla. In my opinion, after the electrics, the steering wheel is a little sluggish, too light, with a set speed, the force on it does not change. At the moment, I’m used to it, there are no questions, but when I get into the Corolla, I’ll be honest - the Corolla steers more pleasantly, I really like it when the steering wheel “gets heavier” and becomes more informative with speed. Fortunately, on the new Ravchik in the 30th body, this drawback is not there, there is an electric booster, it steers perfectly !!! I note the following - the hydraulics on Rava are in any case much nicer than on Koreans, such as San Yong (Kyron, Aktion, Rexton), their steering wheel is generally light, complete shnyag in my opinion, and the Toyota system does not have such scoundrels as bursting unexpectedly power steering hose and flying as a result to replace the power steering pump !!! The steering system does not require special maintenance, the power steering oil changes according to the state .... usually the first change occurs at 80,000 km .... or even later .... I changed it at 120,000 km.
Another feature - I have a steering wheel with leather trim - the quality of the material is amazing - the condition for 135,000 is perfect !!!! Again, comparing with the Koreans - there the steering wheel is washed out and begins to climb already starting from a run of 20,000 km, which is nonsense for me !!!!
I like the salon. Everything is done simply, but tastefully. Frankly, a lot of plastic - the dashboard, door trim ... all plastic, but the plastic is very good with a pleasant texture. Surprisingly - nothing creaks or rattles !!!!!!!!!! Easy to wash!!! Everything is well disassembled and assembled, checked when installing the signaling and replacing two expanders on the rear left door !!!!
What pleased in the cabin:
- the front driver's seat is adjustable in height, the steering wheel is adjustable only in tilt, but the adjustments, in my opinion, are enough! Of the minuses, you can notice the stepped, rather than smooth, adjustment of the angle of inclination of the backrests of the front seats.
- the rear seat is not solid, but divided in half, the halves move back and forth, recline, you can easily remove them from the car altogether and get a huge luggage compartment area !!!
- the quality of the materials is very good, the carpet is tenacious, well cleaned.
- the trunk, in my opinion, is quite roomy, there are comfortable, roomy pockets, you can install a net for animals, included in the kit)))
- the car warms up quickly enough, the heater is very good, the fan starts to make a loud noise, but it is quite acceptable only at the maximum, fourth speed.
- a good regular audio system with 4 speakers in the doors. Not for music lovers, but not asking for a replacement. Of the minuses - the inability to play mp3 on a regular CD.
- very, very good ergonomics - everything is at hand, everything is clear, everything is in its place, sat down and drove off !!! For example, on the Germans - you don’t immediately understand what and where to press, I recently checked it on Volkswagens, Mercedes, and not everything is so smooth on Koreans either !!!! Although it's a matter of taste and habit!
- the glove compartment is not large, but quite roomy, equipped with a lock.
- the cabin air filter is elementary to change, located immediately behind the glove compartment.
- there is a lot of space in the central armrest, deep, holds a lot of small things))))
Good electric sunroof. when the front is opened, a small spoiler rises to reduce noise. It opens in auto mode with one touch, first half, then completely, but closing is less convenient - you have to hold the button.
Of the minuses of the leather driver's seat - there is no adjustment of the lumbar department, as a result, I cannot properly (as comfortably as possible) fit in it, so on long trips I notice that my back begins to feel uncomfortable .... you start to fidget ....! From experience, I note that in the same ravchik with a velor interior - it is more comfortable to sit))) But cleaning is more problematic !!! I can say the same about the new Rav - it is less comfortable on the skin, although the lumbar adjustment is already there !!!
As for outdoor lighting, everything is on the level, it shines forward well in standard halogens, good foglights. I don’t really like the backlight, it’s rather weak in my opinion, but maybe it just seems to me that it seemed to shine better on the Corolla;) All the lamps change without problems, on their own, no harsh tools are required, sometimes nothing but hands is needed)) )). Light bulbs are durable and don't burn out.
Let's sum up, to be honest, I'm already tired of expressing myself, the shutter speed is running out and the beer has come to an end ... in the truest sense of the word))))
Rav4 is a great car, it has a really tenacious hodovka, electronics, has a very practical, comfortable interior, high quality finishing materials, retains its appearance throughout its entire service life.

- a regular battery of small capacity, it is necessary to immediately prepare a replacement.
- there is no pause adjustment function in the intermittent wipers, after the Corolla it is especially noticeable.

Yes, gel battery. allows you to put it to zero without reducing the resource, but requires more advanced devices for charging, also a gel battery. more tenacious when exposed to harsh external factors - but this feature is for those who like to climb "what"))), well, when the air temperature drops, the loss of power is less felt.
In short, after estimating the price-quality parameters, it was decided not to show off, but to put an ordinary battery. increased capacity. In addition, he cost me at a ridiculously insignificant price, and at home I have three different charges for him ... starting with the ancient communist)))))
2. Why such a crap engine?!
I don’t have an additional iron crankcase protection on my car, the regular boot is small, so the engine gets dirty faster, but not in the trash.
Being a person of not the highest degree of cleanliness, I understand that it is not desirable to wash the internal combustion engine without the need, due to the presence of a large number of electronic components under the hood. I must say that Toyota is not the most capricious car in this regard, but why tempt fate when it's winter outside????? And I came across with big fans to wash the engine more than once - upon arrival of their car on a tow truck :), after that there is no such ardent desire in them))) You will say, yes, the wash is worthless, not a pro .... back and forth !!! And it's not about a car wash, but about some design features of different cars and other small factors !!!
For the most curious, I’ll add that the engine on this car has not been washed for four years now, from the moment it was in Russia, I only rinsed it with water without foam a couple of times before registering :)
I'll immediately point out the plus:
- the engine number is located right under the nose, it is easy to reach it with your hand and wipe it, which the traffic police is quite happy with.
I'll point out the downside:
- on this car there is no decorative cover on top of the internal combustion engine that covers the candle coils, there is a possibility of water getting into the candle wells, although I note that the seals of the wells are much better than, say, on a Hyundai Accent with an internal combustion engine cover. I have never had any problems with water intrusion. On the new Ravchik, a decorative cover is already present.
3. About the presence of oil fogging on the valve cover of the internal combustion engine.
The presence of traces of oil fogging in the absence of a drip leak according to the dealer documentation is not a malfunction !!!!
I think that for 135,000 km the presence of these traces of oil is quite acceptable, besides, since the moment of purchase, the situation has not progressed for the worse, as it was, everything remains the same, it has not been added or decreased :)

I noticed that when opening windows diagonally to a certain height (for example, front left + rear right) - there is a rather pleasant airflow of the face with outboard air and it’s more comfortable to ride than with a conder, I couldn’t do this on a Corolla, because the rear windows were on oars!!!
I also noticed that with the Conder somehow I breathe harder in the car .... I don’t know what this is connected with!
I do not argue with the fact that Conder thing Pts. useful in wet weather - glasses are really cleaned very quickly, that is, that is !!!

- there is no clear stepped restriction when opening the doors, maybe it once, of course, was, or I overdo it with the lubrication of the limiters at one time. Sometimes on a hillock or with a slight wind you can’t leave the doors ajar, they either close on their own or swing open, sometimes it infuriates me, but it doesn’t get steamy!
- the antenna on the roof, in principle, does not interfere, but I cannot enter the garage, I have to unscrew it, although, of course, it is clear that this is just a low garage!
- there are no such children's sores as a breakdown of electrical wiring at the junctions of doors and body pillars - a general phenomenon on Fiats, some Hyundais, Nissans, etc.
- non-capricious electronics allows you to "light up" without the sad consequences of those who did not have time to change a simple battery to a gel one before winter))))

Torque distribution between axles 50% to 50%.
Those. on this car, torque is ALWAYS transmitted to both axles in equal proportions !!!
I should note that the viscous coupling works very adequately in corners, and in other difficult cases it does not throw up any unexpected surprises, the car behaves stably and confidently.
Downshifting and additional locking of the front or rear differential are absent.
In some markets, the machine is equipped with a limited-slip rear differential (LSD).
On post-styling, an electronic traction control and vehicle stabilization system appeared, which, on the one hand, is not bad, since it imitates the presence of differential locks, on the other hand, I didn’t feel the effect when driving such a car, because. when it is working, it “strangles” the engine and the car still gets up, but it’s a fact to enter sharp turns less “spectacularly”, but for lovers of live driving this is a minus)))
I note the understeer of my car when entering turns at high speed, on a slippery surface it starts to go sideways from the trajectory, which at first was a surprise for me, because. before that, I didn’t drive on all-wheel drive, it seems that the car is more difficult to stabilize, unlike front-wheel drive, but I repeat - this all happens when the speed limit is significantly exceeded)))
On Rava in a new body, the idea of \u200b\u200bpermanent all-wheel drive was abandoned. Torque is constantly transmitted to the front axle, and the rear axle is connected using an electromechanical electronic clutch as needed, and the need for inclusion is determined by the electronics.
This system is more economical when driving in the city. Structurally, it is made reliably, the head does not turn, it works very adequately. In my opinion, with intensive starting off, the delay in turning on the rear axle is felt a little. I also liked one feature, when driving very slowly, starting off and then turning the steering wheel as far as possible and pressing the gas pedal to the floor, the car can suddenly turn around, I suspect that just because of the rear axle connection, the directional stability system does not have time in this mode react))) The experiment was carried out at the request of one client who complained that the vaunted electronics did not work and he almost peed himself when he was turned 360 degrees in this way !!!
Sometimes the clutch can overheat when driving in difficult conditions, then it turns off and the car goes further on the front or cuckoos until it cools down, but these are not frequent cases.
I repeat, in general, the electronic all-wheel drive system works more than adequately, but less passable !!!
Ravchiki with automatic transmission, model range 2001 - 2003, as well as later ones, as practice has shown, in operation can begin to turn their owners' heads with unexpectedly inadequate operation of the automatic transmission.
Some of the manifestations of this problem (what I myself felt, other symptoms are possible):
- when driving, there is a blow in the transmission, the "Check" indicator lights up, the automatic transmission goes into emergency mode and the car drives with difficulty, there is no throttle response.
- when the selector is moved to position R or D, the speed turns on with a very noticeable blow
- less pronounced symptoms are possible - a noticeable delay when shifting gears, inadequate spontaneous shifting with shocks.
- the "Check" indicator may not light up (as my experiments revealed), and see the symptoms above.
When these problems appear, I recommend putting the car on a "joke" so as not to kill the automatic transmission, because. a faulty unit can simultaneously include third and reverse gears .... etc., so the faulty electronics simply starts to kill the mechanics of the automatic transmission.
As practice has shown, it is not advisable to repair the control unit, it is better to tighten the belt tighter and buy a new unit, although it all depends on the purpose for which you took the car, if for a subsequent quick sale you can try to solder ....
Based on the diagnostic results, the following errors are possible - P0750, etc.
The problem in this case can be solved by replacing the ECM with a modernized one.
See the block number either live on the machine or according to the spare parts program.

Of the positive aspects of the car, I note:
- short overhangs front and rear - really convenient, because never anywhere "attached" the lower parts of the bumpers.
- it is convenient to sit in the driver's seat - narrow thresholds allow you not to get your pants dirty.
- there are no protruding parts on the bottom that can be torn off or bent, such things have already appeared on the new Rava (plastic casings and lower mounts of the rear stabilizer struts).
- just today I noticed that the ashtray is illuminated in the dark, because. I don't smoke, never had to open it at night)))
- the towing eyes are also very conveniently located in front and behind, they are stationary, you don’t need to screw or unscrew anything, they are also very strong ... I recently had a chance to test them, they didn’t let me down)))
Note to owners:
- the spare wheel casing has a latch at the bottom, which, if desired, can be separately closed with a small lock, and so, I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS !!!!!

To illuminate the trunk, a good lamp is installed on the ceiling, but, as it turned out, if there is a shelf in the trunk, the effect of it is ZERO!!! Everything above the shelf can be seen perfectly, everything below, namely, in the trunk itself, is hiding under the wings of the night!!!
The luggage rack itself, when installed on its upper mount (it can be installed another 20 centimeters lower) - does not recline completely upwards, but rises at a small angle and is not fixed, you have to hold it with your hand - UNCONVENIENT, I think to remove it altogether, it has a semantic load, in in principle, does not.
We need to think about this topic, if I'm not too lazy - I'll put a diode backlight on the side of the trunk!
There is no backlight in the glove compartment yet, I think to do something, the difficulty is that the compartment is structurally made in such a way that there is no "frontal" solution ... you have to "smart".

While driving, he did a good deed, pulled out an Opel Astra from a small snowdrift in the yard. The front end sat on its belly a little, in three + the girl behind the wheel could not pull out the car, the plastic front bumper began to move out of the mounts, the headlights suspiciously begin to walk under the arms. There is nowhere to push forward, a huge snowdrift, you can only push back!!! They wanted to pull with a tug, but ..... There is a place for a hook in the back, behind the bumper plug, but there was no hook in the car !!!!!!!!!!!! Then one of the assistants left us ....
What annoys - several cars passing by, as well as passersby passing by, did not express any desire to help in trouble and did not even ask if help was needed, that's redneck !!!!
In short, having got into a hopeless situation, I offered to take the car in tow, hooking the rope on the rear rim, fortunately, it turned out to be cast, with large distances between the beams. After a meeting with the owner of the car, who doubted the successful outcome of this venture and the fear of damaging the wheel, but because of the hopelessness of the situation, the decision was made!!!! Because of the short overhangs, the forehead is completely flooded with water)))
In our spring slush, one feature of this car began to strain, namely:
- when you turn on the washer, the wipers make only one move, respectively, they do not have time to completely clean the windshield :(
- so you yourself need to turn on the cleaners a couple more times!
It turns out just three times .... why did the Japanese not know how to make a washing mode with a three-way switch on the wipers ???? For me it's confusing!!!!
If anyone knows how to make a three-way automatic wipers - I'm listening to suggestions)))
The rumble from the belt tensioner on a cold start began to intensify, therefore, in connection with the arrival of warming, it was decided to tinker at your leisure in the garage with this lure!
Having read all the information on the internet on this topic, having loaded the tool, I went to the garage.
1. Jack up the front right wheel and remove it.
2. We lower the car onto a reliable stand, because the weight is not small, but you will have to lie a lot under the belly)
3. We remove the standard plastic dust protection - two self-tapping screws in the wheel niche + three fasteners under the front bumper.
4. Next, we begin to figure out what to do .... and where to put the tool)))
5. We take paper and a pen - we sketch a diagram of the tricky bends of the drive belt.
6. In the manual, to remove the belt, you need a special. key. As a result, after some thought, I crawled up to the tensioner with an ordinary head, like 19, and a long collar. Whoever does not have such a collar - I recommend buying it, otherwise the idea may turn out to be impossible or threaten with bruises and other tricks.
7. It was not possible to throw off the belt from above the engine, because it was difficult to pull the tensioner and remove the belt from the pump pulley at the same time. More interesting was the option of removing the belt in a prone position through access to the wheel niche. With one hand, he loosened the tensioner, with the other hand, he slid the belt off the water pump pulley. Got it on the 5th try...
8. The belt was safely removed, I try to crawl to the tensioner mount. The result is not GUD. Judging by the limited space, in order to remove the tensioner, you need to hang out the engine, otherwise the mounting bolt will rest against the spar. But suddenly the thought dawned on my head, in FIG I should remove this tensioner assembly, when you can only remove the damper, which, in fact, was the case!
9. With unhurried movements, I unscrew the two fasteners of the damper and remove it. I clean, inspect, disassemble the bushings.
I think that the noise is made by the damper bushings due to the increased clearance in the mates.
10. I disassembled the bushings, wrapped the seats with electrical tape, assembled and installed the damper in its place.
11. Further assembly in the reverse order, I had to tinker with the belt for about 20 minutes ... I didn’t want to sit on the pulleys, it’s more convenient to put it with a partner :)
12. The test run showed - there are no extraneous noises, the operation of the engine is normal.
I will test... how long will it last... I made a sketch of a plastic sleeve, I will try to order from fluoroplastic....
After replacing the front brake discs with new Brembo complete with pads, TRW struggled to deal with a slight squeak that occurs when you lightly press the brake pedal.
Prior to that, there were original pads, but without specials. plates, thanks to the mechanic who changed them and did it disgustingly .... I didn’t install the original plates, I didn’t lubricate the guide pins of the calipers!
But ... even with all this - there was no creaking during braking, the wear of the pads was 50%.
I ordered the original anti-creaks, installed, lubricated the special. grease - I went for a week, I was happy, the squeak disappeared !!!
But nevermind there, a week later reappeared.......((
A month later, I took everything apart again, lubricated everything, but with a different lubricant .... a week without squeaking, then everything over again .... ((

There was nothing to do ... and here is another attempt to overcome the squeaks, today I took everything apart again with thoughts of installing the old original pads, which I carefully put aside in reserve)))
I noticed that the original pads have the designations C and D .... ???
I thought what would it be??
I figured with logical fabrications that one of the pads is external and the other is internal.
I dismantled my new TRWs and began to compare with the original and noticed that there are arrows on the original anti-creak plates, I think the direction of rotation of the wheels when moving forward.
So, with the pads initially installed by me, these arrows were in discord.
I decided to try to assemble TRWs with anti-squeaks according to the arrows on the anti-squeaks.
Assembled, lubed, installed.
I will test....
Installed the wear indicator plates on the inner pads.
Tightened the wheel nuts to the torque regulated by the manual :)
After numerous experiments, the front pads still squeak under light braking.
Hence the conclusion - I do not recommend TRW pads for ravchik !!!

Installing a new sensor was not an easy undertaking, for many years, it, an infection, boiled to death ... I had to unscrew it with human strength and God's help))) Thanks to my brother, I fitted a super-duper ancient communist key, as if specially made for a ravchik, without it wouldn't screw it up!!!
After the control trip, the fuel consumption decreased and is at the level of 10.4 - 10.9 l / 100 km.
It's time for the holidays and I did a little soundproofing and, along the way, I decided to upgrade the audio system)))
I bought all sorts of different Shumkov, a four-channel amp and a set of component acoustics to the front.
I made the noise quite quickly ... I dampened all the doors and some of the trunk parts ...
It's time to put the amp...and here some ambushes crept up...I took a relatively compact amp specifically to place it under the driver's seat with high-level inputs, because. there are no linear outputs on a regular mafon, and I didn’t want to get involved with soldering the rulers, but in the end I had to :)
The amp with great difficulty was placed under the driver's seat, probably on the tenth attempt ... the seat hesitated to remove and install .... finally, the desired position of the amp was determined, the wiring was laid ... the seat was installed, the panel was assembled ... Hurray, everyone plays and sings ... chic ... but I didn’t have to rejoice for long !!!
It turned out that I connected and tested everything without starting the engines, only in ACC mode ....
And so I went from the garage to the house and pipets .... an ambush ... I hear the background in the acoustics at low volume .... from the on-board network .... although the wires are all laid wisely ... the cross section is good ... power separately, acoustic separately .... BUT FONIT !!!!
Numerous experiments with wires did not lead to anything .... I had to solder the linear outputs (((
To solder the liners - the head unit is disassembled to the last screw, which did not please at all (((
But the deed is done, the mafon is installed in a regular place, the rulers are connected to the amp ... the effect is super, everything plays quietly ... nothing is phoning ... baldness)))
Of the unresolved problems - a click in the acoustics when the ignition is turned off ... I don’t know how to deal with this phenomenon ...

- start the car
- move the automatic transmission selector to any position from the parking lot
- at the same time, the dimensions and low beam are automatically turned on
- after which the external lighting is constantly on
- turned off the ignition - the outside lighting turned off automatically
That. forget about the lighting knob))))
It took me two weeks to work out the electrical circuits of Ravchik at a leisurely pace from scratch.
After that shemka was made and installed during the day on the car.

But the idea does not sleep, it was the turn of the Corolla to stand in the way of experiments.
Initially, the handbrake control was planned - turned off the handbrake - the lighting turned on, but, on reflection, I made everything a little trickier)))
- when starting the engine, nothing lights up
- as soon as the command of any turn is given - the external lighting automatically turns on
- when the ignition is turned off, the exterior lighting turns off
In my opinion, this scheme is the most successful, because. Suitable for cars with both automatic transmission and mechanics.

Rewinding worn bushings with electrical tape gave a short-term effect.
Bronze bushings were ordered, upon arrival of the bushings, the tensioner was dismantled, and new bronze bushings were installed.
In addition to the bushings, a small amount of engine oil was poured into the tensioner body, because, judging by the traces, the tensioner on this model should work in a damping fluid environment. In the absence of such a liquid in Ufa (high-viscosity oil), I used engine oil, synthetic 5w40, for testing.
The tensioner has been installed in place ... trial operation is underway ... at the moment two months have passed since installation and about 1000 km. run - normal flight.
Well, to the heap, when installing the tensioner, immediately change the oil in the engine .... you won’t spoil the porridge with oil, I don’t save on oil. Oil filter - only the original.

The other day I muddied a complete oil change in the Toyota T-IV automatic transmission with Toyota WS (new oil with a more progressive viscosity characteristic depending on temperature).
Replaced the transmission oil filter accordingly.
The procedure is not difficult, but dirty ... all was in oil ...)))
I did my own oil change setup.
After changing the oil on the Toyota WS, I did not notice much difference in the behavior of the car.
- Slightly smoother shifting
- I do not feel, as before, a slight push when turning on positions R or D
- it seems that the car is "easier" to drive on an unheated engine ....
For those who are thinking about the question of the advisability of changing the oil in a Toyota T-IV automatic transmission to Toyota WS - there is no point in bothering ... the effect will not exceed expectations!
After changing the fluid in the automatic transmission to Toyota WS, I can say the following observations:
- the car at a negative air temperature overboard rides "easier" ... immediately after starting the internal combustion engine without warming up;
- fuel consumption has decreased, but not globally ... at the moment it shows 11.1 l / 100 km on the onboard .... previously it was more than 12 l / 100 km.
In other habits, I do not observe changes ....
As I said earlier, Rav4 is a boring car in terms of service ... it drives itself and drives ... :)
There is nothing to do from it, and it got warmer in our area, nevertheless I decided to replace the valve cover gasket, because. after winter frosts, oil fogging at the junction of the cover increased ... although not critical, I would have traveled another hundred thousand ...
But there was nothing to do, and playful hands .... :)
The issue price is about 360 rubles.
I immediately changed the cabin and air filters, because. dusty winter ... over 3,000 km the filters were killed ... I don’t save on this, I change it often ... just like the oil in the engine ....)))
The machine pleases, does not cause problems ....
Mileage 160,000 km....
Replaced the front shock absorbers (there were still relatives) and front stabilizer bushings.
Replaced the rear brake pads.
I replaced the lower oxygen sensor (the heating burned out) - it served 160,000 km, I think this is a good indicator, I didn’t hang up the snag, because the additional resistor gets very hot.
THAT according to the regulations.

Bought for this case 12 liters. WS oils.
Plugged it in and changed the oil!

The previously installed TRW front shock absorbers were “tired”, the car became noticeably softer and the struts began to work out “sharply” abruptly on the rebound ... speed bumps began to be uncomfortable to pass. No drips, fogging were found, apparently the performance just sank.
- I do not recommend TRW shock absorbers, they quickly "got tired"
- for an active ride, I recommend strangling the toad and taking the original shock absorbers
- for an experiment, you can try Bilstein - recently put on equal footing - made soundly, subjectively tougher than TRW

I ran about a thousand kilometers in this rhythm ... the noise began to appear already at a speed of 40 km / h , just had free time and the time came for maintenance, drove into the service, looked at the chassis and along the way replaced the internal combustion engine oil with filters.
Inspection results - replacement of the front right wheel bearing.
- NSK bearing - 43BWD06BCA133, reliable company, let's see how it behaves
- hub nut - 9017722001 toyota
According to the catalog, the bearing was listed as a "kit", i.e. it was planned that the box would have a retaining ring and, possibly, a nut ... as a result, there was only a bearing in the box.
All together - 1100 rubles.
For those who will change the bearing - if you are not sure what will come in the box as a "kit" - take the bearing, hub nut and retaining ring.
Because since the release of the car, no one has climbed into it - as a result, the entire replacement took about two hours.
When unscrewing the nut, it slipped along the thread, I had to sweat with the retaining ring so as not to break ...
The ABS sensor was removed from the hub without problems, but during the inspection I doused it with a VDESHKOY, maybe it got soaked.
In connection with the new year, the ordered bearing on 12/28/2013 arrived only on 01/06/2014...
Whom the toad does not strangle - the original bearing + nut + retaining ring = approximately 2 - 2.5 thousand rubles.
I was suffocated before the new year :)
Of the additions - before winter, I poured high-quality synthetic transmission oil Castrol Syntrax Lglife - 4671900060 into the transfer case and the rear gearbox, you need two liters for everything. According to reviews - the oil is gorgeous. Price per liter from 600 rubles.
January frosts up to - 37 made themselves felt, at the next inspection of the car in the service - two TRW front shock absorbers flowed and rattled.
I have no more business with TRW, I wanted to order the originals, but the price tag is about 7000 rubles. I scared off a piece, so I ordered TOKICO + two new anthers for 500 rubles each (original).
How will the mood - I'll call in, install, unsubscribe about the results.

Life does not stand still .... the car runs every day, there are no problems.
With the accumulation of experience and financial resources, the following has been done:
- Tokico front shock absorbers changed to original ones
- the front brake pads were replaced with the original, the front brake discs were replaced with a high-quality non-original.
- as a preventive measure, I dismantled the front brake calipers and replaced the caliper repair kit (sealing rubber elements) + caliper pistons
The cost of a set of original shock absorbers is 11,000 rubles (the dollar at the time of purchase is 41 rubles)
The cost of the original front pads is 3000 rubles.
Caliper repair kit original 1000 rubles + two pistons 800 rubles each
- the original shock absorbers behave remarkably, especially during rebound.
- the braking efficiency on the original pads is many times better than on TRW and Advics, and on Advix the braking efficiency is the worst, but they do not squeak, unlike TRV.
For several years of work in the Toyota service, I can definitely say that the brake pads need to be taken from the original, the suspension elements also need to be taken from the original, unless, of course, you make a car for sale!
