After that, about 6 years ago, Avensis appeared in our family in '98, 3SFE, mechanics, sedan. The choice of this model was unconscious, but as it turned out, very successful. So I fell in love with Toyota, I don’t want to list the benefits, the main thing is RELIABILITY. There were no serious unforeseen breakdowns, the machine “warns” about all malfunctions in advance, making it possible to slowly fix the problem. Mileage 250,000, in real life I'm sure more. I wrote a review about it, but I won’t post it in any way, it’s been lying for almost a year already))).
Since Avensis could be said to be a family car, I decided to purchase another car ... I saved up money for 2 years, set out to buy a car on my own and operate it all year round. All two years, after work, I climbed on the Internet and looked at cars, prices, specifications, offers. Over time, the stack of banknotes grew, and desires changed. I will list some cars that I dreamed about ... Nissan Skyline (R35), Toyota Celica (T23), Toyota Avensis II, I really liked the Subaru Outback III, I almost bought it, I still regret it ... There was 650 thousand money, owed to no one, not credit , earned with my own hands, in many ways denying myself more than 2 years ... In short, I found a slightly different use for money, considering that at my 24 years old you can ride a wheelbarrow easier, decisions were not made very easily, but thoughts were about the future, and the car, this is a gain, a matter of time, and if things go well, in another year, there will be an opportunity to change an inexpensive car for a better one.
Started watching cars with a budget of 300-350 thousand. About Rav4 I read everything on the Drome, everything was also read about the above cars, and many others. I decided that my childhood dream should come true. For 3 months, 7 Ravchiks were slowly viewed, there were no worthy offers in my native Ryazan, I rode to Moscow several times, to Tula, I even wanted to go to Penza, it’s good that it was sold before my day off))).

I was tired of choosing, driving around the cities, I also wanted to take a break from work ... Spring, vacation ... Relatives live abroad, they have been calling me to visit for 10 years already. And I will go!!! I ordered tickets, bought all sorts of gifts, flew in, I'm relaxing, for the first time abroad! The first time I saw the sea, I swam. All class! At night at the computer ... Avto.ru. I saw the perfect Rav, Silver, air conditioning, Restyling, the wheels are beautiful, I liked everything, there are all sorts of improvements in the cabin - the seats are altered, inserts on the doors - leather, gear knob, steering wheel, podiums for "tweeters" on the windshield pillars - also leather, the ceiling is blue suede, in general, all new leather elements in the cabin are blue genuine leather. I look at all this, and I'm sad. I am hundreds of kilometers from home, and back only after 20 days (((. I admired it every day, I thought, if they don’t sell it, I’ll go look immediately!
Not sold. I returned from vacation, on the same day I phoned the owners, agreed that I would arrive in the morning.
My friend and I at 5 in the morning, on a bus to the Capital, at 11 o'clock found the address, saw it, remembered all the Rafs that I looked at ... This one was ideal relative to those. A young woman came out with a small child in her arms, opened it, and began to tell the story of this specimen. I liked everything, and most importantly - she loved him, it was evident from the state. We discussed everything, went to carry out the procedures for deregistration and collecting the “devotee” in the form of a set of winter wheels, old headlights, and a bunch of necessary small things. The family turned out to be very good, we spent the whole day with them, drove around Moscow in two cars, stopped to rest, feed the child and have a snack ourselves. Even made friends with them. They were very sad to part with the car. The father of the family drove a BMW 320 (E36) in excellent condition, a cool car, I drove with him to the traffic police. All issued, hung transits, went to the garage, behind the wheels. When the trunk was already filled with all the bonuses and the way home was waiting for us, we even took a picture for memory)
Beginning and process of operation.
The car is 12 years old. I was ready to invest. I didn’t see any obvious problems, except for the rattling back door and the hood, which was terrible from chipping, but the car didn’t really “feel”. Problems with brakes, tech. inspection passed on the fourth try. Cracked windshield... bloated paint on top of it. The hood is all chipped, ready for painting, preferably with a roof together ... and then the glass needs new immediately. The towbar hung menacingly down, very massive, heavy and spoiling the appearance - it asked to be removed as soon as the "fly swatter" from the hood ... In general, as Leonardo Da Vinci said - "Beauty is when there is nothing superfluous". I hate unnecessary elements on the car, for me a minimum of external bells and whistles is better. The wheels are beautiful, yes! Remove the rest, where there are scratches, chips, paint, and so that as often as possible there is a clean car, with blackened rubber. In short, I removed all the extra nonsense. I will post a photo, how it was before the purchase and what it is now. The difference is not big, but still.
A lot of problems with the suspension were identified in the car service. I don’t remember everything ... Front struts, a bunch of silent blocks at the back, all sorts of traction, pads, some kind of pillow holding the rear wheel drive mechanism (I don’t remember the exact name, I remember that it’s very expensive) tips and so on. In total, I bought about 25 thousand pieces of iron with rubber bands, it’s still good that my friends are engaged in spare parts for foreign cars, they brought everything without their own benefit. Everything was replaced, also at God's prices. Then the wheel alignment, with the preliminary replacement of all breakup bolts (these bolts, as it turned out, was a weak point). The wind with splashes of mud penetrated from somewhere, in the area of the pedals ... The oil seal or seal of some kind of steering column needed to be replaced, the work was not easy, the masters did it. It became warmer, drier, and what was very surprising - QUIETER in the cabin!
It was decided to update the hood, painted it as planned with the roof, on which swollen places were eliminated, two antennas were removed (a radio antenna on the left on the rack and in the center of the roof - probably a telephone one), the glass is new by itself. Bought not the original, but satisfied. I didn’t want to install the old grill, it was cracked, I bought a new one, with an emblem. Xenon in the middle, put the cheapest, shines great. In dimensions, white diodes, inherited. The back door was very infuriating with its roar, I saw that the lock was loose, the bolts were not being tightened already ... I replaced it with ordinary ones, not original ones, with nuts, tightened it well, pushed the loop on the body deeper, and everything became quiet and tight. The spare tire is heavy, without a cover, annoyed with its presence, I wanted to buy a chrome casing, it costs around 7 thousand, until it is up to it. I drive without a spare tire, at my own peril and risk, carrying a pump and some kind of chemical bottle, for sealing a tire in case of emergency. By the way, when I buy a cover, made of polished stainless steel, I won’t hang up a spare tire, it will be just for appearance, so that my door doesn’t break with its weight. Or maybe I’ll brew everything there, everything will be smooth, nothing superfluous)))
Annoying muffler, which is very visible, rusty, scary. I plan to rework from stainless steel. In appearance, everything so far. On the engine: 230,000 km. Run, judging by the work, and compared with Avensis, this is a real run. No complaints. I want to clean the injector in order to prevent. Before replacing the timing, there are still 50 thousand, I don’t want to interfere with his work, everything is clear. Replaced spark plugs, all filters. 3SFE is generally considered to be a reliable engine, it was put on many Toyotas, it is only noisy. The former owners warned about the need to top up the oil and gave a liter flask of Castrol, 10W40 semi-synthetics. They said 1-2 liters are added, from replacement to replacement. In Avensis, I always poured "Comma Eurolight 10W40 semi-synthetic. And I decided that both cars will be on Castrol now, the oil is kind of cooler))) I'm tired of pouring this miracle Castrol into Avensis! Ugar, zhor, very big! As a result, Komma was poured into Rav, 9 thousand skated, topping up was not required. Avensis will also be returned to Comma.
I wrote about the salon above, all the seats are qualitatively altered with blue leather, built-in heating with several power modes, inserts in the doors, steering wheel, box handle, from the same material, the ceiling is suede, dark blue. Illumination in the glove compartment homemade, also blue. The style is sustained. The quality of the plastic is nowhere worse, but I can’t call it a rattle, the overall sound insulation is poor. My height is 188 cm. I feel comfortable driving, though I put an armrest for convenience. Came up not factory, for the tenth model of Zhiguli, the issue price is 600 rubles. 2 hours of installation work. There is not enough space for small things, the glove compartment and door pockets are not enough at all. In general, after a D-class sedan, there seems to be very little space, but over time I adapted to everything, stuffed everything I needed. The speakers are not bad everywhere, the radio tape recorder, Alpine, while I'm listening, but in the summer everything will be different. I think how to put a Subic more, this is a problem, since the trunk is extremely small. I really don’t have enough mirror heating, I bought special built-in heating elements, I don’t have enough time and determination to do the installation. There was no alarm, only central locking and a “miracle” immobilizer hanging on the key fob. How I suffered with this "anti-theft system"! Sometimes he couldn't start the car. I turned to an electrician who removed all this dregs that prevented me from living a normal life (he suffered pretty much). Set up an alarm. I regretted 100 times that I took Starline, unreasonably expensive, useless set of functions, the key fob periodically loses connection and the car cannot be opened, you have to remove and insert the battery. Maybe, of course, I got a defective system ... the second key fob, without feedback, also does not work stably.
The case was. Once on the road I felt that the traction was gone, I give gas, but it does not go! I stopped, turn on the speed, the speedometer needle rises - the car is in place. I started to try everything in a row, I pressed the clutch, the speeds were different and all that. Accidentally pressed the lock button - the car drove off. It turned out that the shruz flew out of the box, breaking the oil seal. Replaced the seal, oil at the same time in the box, put the shruz in place.
I drove it through the mud, I would say the average off-road is normal, it only starts to turn it around on the spot, when it slips, you need to get used to it. In the snow, normally, tests without fanaticism. On the beach, he got stuck in the sand, maybe due to inexperience, maybe the loose sand got really caught ... he sat on his belly, the wheels spin one by one obliquely and that's it, he fiddled with it for a long time, dragged by a tractor. Differences in driving performance with and without electronic locking, I have not yet felt. I want to admit that I did not expect feats from the SUV and did not demand them, but he pleasantly surprised me in some of my whims, I would not dare to drive where in a simple passenger car. A big plus, in terms of driving on bad roads, is given by short bumpers, high ground clearance and a short wheelbase. In wet weather, the back door gets dirty quickly and badly, and driving through puddles provides a plentiful shower. Moisture sprays very strongly from the front wheels, it happened that you drive through puddles and douse yourself in such a way that the wipers do not immediately cope, this is despite the fact that I have extended wheel arches. I thought maybe it was because of the non-standard size of the wheels, it turned out that on the winter set, the factory size, there is the same problem.
The first gear is very short, probably for off-road, instead of downshifting. You have to change gears quickly. Already used to it. But it picks up speed very confidently! You can "bullet" from a traffic light! Then they really catch up) Comfortable up to 90-110 km / h. Further, the revolutions are already over 3500, noise, and pitching. For the city, he has enough ability to move normally, on long trips, if possible, I drive Avensis, it is more comfortable, faster and more economical. Ravchik's brakes are not very pleasant, but I'm used to it. The stove works great, the air conditioning is fine.
Conclusion and impressions.
There were moments when I regretted buying it, there were times when I was dragging myself away from it. Now it’s been mine for more than half a year, all emotions have subsided, I like the car, taking into account the fact that it’s not practical - there is almost no trunk, but easily folding rear seats save me. A coupe car for an egoist, I was convinced of this. There is enough space and convenience for one or two, more, strain already. Although I drove three people in the back, and drove normally))) In general, there are two seats in the back. In terms of fuel consumption: I pour 92, with moderately active driving, in summer, consumption is about 12 liters, average, the city is predominantly, with air conditioning at least two liters more. In winter, I haven’t done calculations yet, but I’m already estimating that 15 comes out.
The car in general is pleasant, it makes you pay attention to yourself. It’s stupid to buy such a family for a family, I wouldn’t dare to do it, there wouldn’t be a second car. A five-door is much more practical, but it does not have this zest and personality of a short man! In terms of reliability and maintainability, there are few competitors to old Toyotas, everything is done there with a large supply of resources. Any spare parts to order without any problems, analogues and original, some "pieces of iron" at a cost, like VAZ ones. Regarding foreign cars, Toyota is not expensive to service. I judge from personal experience, and the stories of friends involved in the sale of spare parts. Same with Toyota reviews.

The engine runs noisily, but then returns to normal. There are a lot of creaks and noises in the cabin, but after a set of heat, everything “falls into place”. The stove pleases. Consumption is not exactly measured, but I think more than 15 liters.
Kalia does not like, when trying to leave, there is a high probability of skidding and turning around. Almost flew away a couple of times. Now I feel the behavior and drive more confidently. Cross-country ability in the snow: the main thing is not to put it on the belly, but otherwise it rides merrily, but again without exploits, I didn’t lay new roads in the snow, and where ordinary cars skid, I drive with a smile. When the electronic lock button was pressed, I did not feel a difference in patency. Velcro rubber, factory rims.
Now there is a problem, the gas pedal “sticks” at the beginning of the stroke, it rarely appeared before, now it is almost constant. Something with the damper, probably checked the cable, lubricated it, no change. I'll go to the master ... Has anyone encountered such a problem?
I decided to share my impressions about the operation of the car after cleaning the injector and cleaning the throttle with adjustment.
The problem was that the gas pedal “sticked” at the beginning of the stroke, and the injector decided to clean it taking the opportunity, for prevention. Cleaned with liquid. After these procedures, the problem with the pedal was solved, but I didn’t immediately appreciate the effect of cleaning ... I’m used to always refueling at the same gas station and for the same amount: 1000 rubles, 38 liters of AI92, I drive to the bulb and when refueling I always track the mileage from refueling to refueling. I used to drive 200-240 km, on average. Routes are about the same, driving style too. Now, which time I already spot 300-330 km. I didn’t believe my eyes at first ... I used to think that this is how he should eat gasoline, 2 liters, four-wheel drive ... And now I’m happy. Too lazy to calculate the average consumption, but it is clear that the difference is very significant.

I installed a new battery, and with such a glitch I brought the key fob to the windshield, where the antenna was, no reaction. Now I use the second remote control, it's better, but it also often does not react the first time. Why is it expensive? Not expensive in principle, but on the Avensis there is a signaling for 2 thousand, with feedback too, it’s not clear what company, I bought it, I didn’t know what. Works without problems. Installed by the way the same master, with a difference of 5 years.

I used this tool. I injected it, waited, I pump it (everything according to the manual). Doesn't load! I’m still pumping - it’s useless 0. After 15 minutes I gave up this lesson and climbed into the mud - to change the RESERVE.
